A strategic goal of any healthcare organization is the quality performance of the employees. The Institute of Medicine (1998) created the most accepted definition of quality in the healthcare industry: patient services current with scientific knowledge that result in a desired health outcome. Research information on high-performance organizations and provide 5 strategic methods that could be used to improve employee productivity in the healthcare organization, impacting quality.

Healthcare organizations, even those that are high performance should always look for ways to improve their processes to ensure the best healthcare outcomes possible for their patients. According to McConnell (2021), human resources in most cases is able to measure its own performance through benchmarks and or baselines. They are then able to compare these factors with the industry to see where they stand compared to other organizations. In healthcare employees are a huge part of organizational success and human resources must have policies in place that recognize and reward employees accordingly. It will also help retain employees and recruit more talent if there are incentives that are attractive.

One strategy that could be used is to improve workforce competencies. It is important that employees that are hired are knowledgeable and have the right skills to work in the healthcare industry. It is also important for these individuals to continue to seek new knowledge in their profession and refresh their knowledge by attending training such as refreshers. During the Covid-19 pandemic placed a lot of pressure on the healthcare industry which placed a lot of attention on quality and healthcare improvement. A recent study was conducted by the Health Foundation in the United Kingdom that showed that healthcare improvement played a more vital role particularly in the high performance organizations (Mercado, 2021). Healthcare quality and improvement intensified during and after the pandemic even in those organizations that already had high rated healthcare outcomes. Workforce competency is a very important aspect of a healthcare organization and making sure the employees are keeping their senses sharp is very important to positive healthcare outcomes.

Another strategy that could be implemented is better tracing of healthcare equity when it comes to quality improvement and healthcare outcomes. Equity is a huge part of providing quality healthcare and making sure that the desired healthcare outcomes are being met. Equity should be a factor that is centered within an organizations data infrastructure whether the organization be public or private. This will help healthcare organizations better trace and address racism and other inequities like race, ethnicity, and geography and be collected at the federal, state, and local levels (Dzau, Mate & O’Kane, 2022). Healthcare equity is very important and must be traceable and distinguishable in order to properly fix the issue and improve the quality of healthcare. Employees must be held accountable for their actions if they are found to have mistreated patients and human resources must be cognizant of the situation.

Improving healthcare structure is another strategy that could be used to improve quality and healthcare outcomes. Healthcare structure is very important when it comes to diagnosing patients with diseases and or illnesses that can contribute to morbidity or negative healthcare outcomes. Early detection of disease can be the turning point in a patients life and in their healthcare outcome. The ability to effectively optimize care processes requires using and understanding the current evidence and using it to act. This will ensure that positive outcomes will be achieved and will help tailor to preferences of individuals. For patients that have chronic conditions this would include early detection, diagnosis, choosing treatment, ensuring adherence, assessing treatment effectiveness, and adjusting treatment. This would be difficult to achieve without the support of tools, protocols, and teamwork (McGlynn, 2020). Healthcare processes and protocols is important in order to be able to achieve desired outcomes. Certain chronic diseases and illnesses require early detection in order to be able to have a positive outcome.

Two other strategies that can be utilized to improve quality and ensure good healthcare outcomes would be something as basic as service quality and resource management. Patients are more likely to seek care if they feel they are being properly taken care of and the staff is respectful and listen to their needs and or wants. No matter the background that one comes from, showing others respect is important in order for them to receive the healthcare that they need. This will also help ensure positive healthcare outcomes. This all comes down to ethical behavior of employees and them following company policies. Resource management is another important aspect of quality of care. Resource management can be anything from making sure that the healthcare organizations has enough basic resources such as syringes or medical devices to being properly staffed. Quality relies on these types of strategies and requires diligence and innovation to continue to improve. Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Zondervan, 2011, p. 1077). Put forth hard work and God will reward you.
