In this module, the Roadmap Journal consists of multiple steps.
Step 1: Use Career Center Phase 3 Resources to Improve your Resume and Add it to Portfolium
Throughout this course, you will become familiar with the Excelsior Career Readiness Center resources for students and how they can help you plan and actualize your future career and professional goals. Begin by going to the Career Readiness CenterLinks to an external site. page and scrolling down to “Phase 3: Plan” and reviewing the links. If you are a military service member or veteran, make sure to click on the tab “Military and Veteran Resources” for additional options. Make sure to specifically review the links titled Resume and Cover Letter Resume Samples and Resume Optimizer.
In Module 1, you set up your Portfolium Account and populated it with some basic information about yourself. Now, in Module 4, you are going to use the Phase 3 resources to make improvements to your resume. Make sure to review your resume for typos, formatting errors, and other issues that an employer might notice. Even if you are not ready to enter the job market just yet, make sure your resume is in a state where you’d feel comfortable submitting it to a prospective employer.
Then, go to your existing Portfolium AccountLinks to an external site., click on your profile, and then click “Add a Resume” to upload your resume file as a .docx or .pdf file.
Once your resume is successfully added you can find it on the left tab of your profile:
Finally, “share” your portfolio link with your instructor in the same document as your journal entry submission. You can find the link to your Portfolium account under your name as described in the directions above. If you changed your Privacy settings, make sure you use the private link. This link will only be visible to your instructor. Refer to the Portfolium Set Up Directions for any difficulties.
Step 2: Reflect on the Phase 3 Resources
Reflect on what you learned in a journal entry of approximately 1-2 paragraphs (100-250 words).
Consider the following as jumping-off questions (you do not need to answer each one in turn):
Which of the Phase 3 resources did you review and what did you learn? Will you return to these resources later on?
How did you use the Phase 3 resources to improve your resume? What other changes would you like to make to your resume before entering the job market in your chosen career?
Step 3: Cultural Diversity in the Workplace
In this module, we learned about the concept of cultural diversity and applied it to both your global problem literature review and your charitable organization for your team project. Now, you will use your Roadmap journal entry to reflect on the cultural norms of your planned career field (or current career field). Every career field and every particular workplace has cultural norms and values that are prioritized. But we also know from the research that more diverse teams are more successful. So, how does your current field (or future career field) value and prioritize cultural diversity?
Consider the following as jumping-off questions (you do not need to answer each one in turn) to apply what you’ve learned about cultural diversity to your current or future career field in a journal entry of approximately 1-2 paragraphs (100-250 words):
What are the top three cultural norms and values of this field or workplace (consider how these norms fit with Hofstede’s cultural dimensions)? Which cultural norms and values are prioritized? Which are minimized or ignored?
Does the workforce reflect the cultural diversity of the community it is in? Does it reflect the diversity of the customer or client base it serves? If not, which cultural groups are underrepresented and why?
How do individuals from different cultural groups interact and where is there a possibility of conflict or misunderstanding?
How might any of the following improve cultural diversity, inclusivity, and understanding in the workplace:
