Population and Sample: Describe the population you wish to study; identify sampling technique.

Comprehensive Examination
– Research Methodology –
Correctional officers play a critical role in maintaining safety and order within correctional
facilities. However, the nature of their work environment exposes them to numerous concerns
and challenges, leading to high levels of tension and burnout. The prevalence of anxiety and
burnout among correctional officers not only impacts their job performance but also contributes
to job dissatisfaction and high turnover rates. Recognizing this critical issue, a proactive warden
in a prison is interested in understanding the institutional factors that contribute to job
dissatisfaction among correctional officers. To address this concern, the warden offered a grant
to inform the development of evidence-based interventions and to promote the job satisfaction of
correctional officers and enhance the overall functioning of correctional institutions. You are
asked to construct a proposal to identify (1) causes of job satisfaction among correctional
officers, including a methodology to identify and specify any causes of job dissatisfaction, (2) as
well as circumstances that promote or intensify causes of job dissatisfaction; and (3) relevant
policy implications to eliminate its causes. The proposed research will comprise several key
sections, with an outline for the quantitative investigation provided below.
Required Sections
Purpose of Study (Minimum 1 Pages)
– What is the purpose of your study?
– Why is your study important?
– Provide a clear research question and hypothesis (or hypotheses).
Methodology (Minimum 4 Pages)
– Research Design: Indicate the type of research study you are going to do and justify your
– Population and Sample: Describe the population you wish to study; identify sampling
technique. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your selected sampling technique?
– Data Collection: Explain in detail the administration of the instrument, including data
collection methods, dates, times, how contacted, etc.
– Instrument: Describe the development of your instrument; indicate which items will be used to
answer which research questions. If your instrument has been already developed and validated

by other researchers, you will have to provide a description and justification of the instrument
(e.g., how it has been used; why you chose to use it; if they are valid and reliable).
– Variables: Define major variables and explain the working and operational definitions.
– Analysis Plan: Univariate, Bivariate, and Multivariate statistics (in case, Alternative statistics).
Limitations (Minimum 1 Pages)
– Expected Research Limitations: Indicate methodological and ethical issues
(e.g., justify your sampling technique concerning its validity and reliability; discuss limitations
of sample; discuss the limitation(s) of your data collection methods; if any, and address IRB
-Ethical Challenges: confidentiality, workplace protocols (union representation, national
standards for research safety, organizational policies)
– Using APA 7th style, list references on a separate final page. To reiterate, your main
bibliographical sources should be scholarly books and academic journals, including online peer-
reviewed articles (e.g., European Journal of Criminology, The British Journal of Criminology,
American Sociological Review, Social Forces, Sociological Focus, Sociological Spectrum,
Social Science Quarterly, Justice Quarterly, Criminology, Crime and Justice, The Journal of
Criminal Law and Criminology, Homicide Studies, etc.
