Assignment Three
Visualizing Social Justice Assignment (20% of grade)
Assignment Length: Maximum 6 pages (excluding reference and cover/title pages)
Assignment Due Date: February 28, 2024
This assignment will help students to understand that social work practice and the interventions we apply in
working with our clients have links to the society we live in and the practices that exist which could reinforce
the oppression or marginalisation of others. It is important to know how students see, assess, and respond to
societal issues.
*Students will be able to discuss the mode of sharing their finished work with others as the term progresses.*
Assignment Description
As students move through the course, there will be a growing understanding of concepts and approaches
relating to social justice, Students are also expected to interrogate their local environment, society, community,
or institutions for issues that operate within these spaces that may bring social justice or social injustice to life.
Each student’s reflective analysis of their identified spaces will be captured in FIVE PHOTOS (pictures
should be taken by the student, not obtained from the internet or books) that either demonstrate social
justice in action or social injustice in action. With links to course materials, each photo will be supported by a

half page summary that expresses, what is happening, how it demonstrates social justice/injustice and how this
might affect your future social justice informed practice. Your photo and summaries should address these
themes:
• What is the issue depicted in the photo? Who are the people affected by the issue and how, and what
is the relevance of the issue to social work practice?
• What are the links to social justice related practice? Can you identify concepts and approaches
(theories, models, modes of practice) that amplify your critical analysis of issues depicted in your
photo?
• What is the larger impact of the issue (for instance, the influence of globalisation, neoliberalism, the
current context of human services provision; social policies, power differentials, difference, and
history)?
• What are the constraints or possibilities for your social justice-oriented action in working with affected
