Literature review instructions
1. Asummary of the research articles being used.
2. Will guide the development of the other 2 sections.
3. Must be 5-7 pages in length (body- this does not include the title page & reference page).
4. Must use a minimum of 3 qualitative research articles and 3 quantitative research articles.
5. Must follow the formatting guidelines presented below.
6. Title page and reference page.
7. Must submit a PDF copy of articles used.
8. See guidelines regarding information needed for each article. LINK (next paragraph below)
Section Il of your research paper is an account of the research articles that you found during your review of the literature regarding your topic. Each research article must be described separately. The following list can be used to help you write this section. If you will gather the following data, then you will have what you need to write Section I.
Please note that Section I must be written in paragraph form. You will need multiple paragraphs for each article.
At the end of each article evaluation, give a short summary.
You must cite at least one time per paragraph.
Information needed for each article review:
APA Reference:
Include the entire APA citation in your Reference page.
Purpose:
The purpose statement should be clear and concise. It is not always called a purpose, but might be an aim, a goal, or a desired outcome.
Research Questions or Hypotheses:
What questions/hypotheses is the research study aiming to answer? If there are numerous research questions and/or hypotheses, you can summarize this information.
Theoretical or Conceptual Framework:
Not all studies identify a conceptual or theoretical framework. If a framework is identified, it should be included along with the author who developed the theory or concept. If it is not identified, vou need to state that there was no theoretical framework identified
Population/Sample:
Population is the entire population eligible for participation in a study. The sample is a finite group of the population that actually participated in the study. Information about the sample should include inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Setting:
The setting is where and when the study took place.
Research Design:
Be specific. Tell if quantitative or qualitative and then tell the specific type.
Statistical Methods (quantitative studies)/Data
Analysis (qualitative studies):
You need to report the statistical methods used in the quantitative studies. For qualitative studies, identify the type of data analysis that was used.
Findings (link the findings to research questions or hypotheses):
You need to report actual statistical findings or thematic findings for qualitative studies
What did the researchers find out from this study. Did they answer their research questions or reject their null hypothesis?
Implications of the findings:
Implications are how the study results impacts nursing care.
Limitations:
Limitations are threats to internal validity/reliability that were impossible to be avoided or minimized. If the study does not identify limitations, state that.
Study recommendations:
Recommendations for future research. This is where you will begin to establish your gap in the literature. This information will help you develop your study purpose.
Bias:
Anything that introduces prejudice or potential prejudice in a study.
Synthesis of Research Article:
Summarize the article and how it is relevant to your proposed study. The abstract can help with this information, but you need to remember to put this in your own words.
Literature Review Guidelines
For each article, include:
– name of the article
– author(s)
– date of publication (not the study dates, but when it was published)
– the purpose of the study and it sought to determine
– findings or results of the study
The paper should flow as one paper, not articles just put together in a document. At the beginning of the literature review, write a general introduction that you can copy and paste in section I and IlI.
In the first part of the literature review (after the introduction paragraph) include your search terms, the years of your search, and the search engines used for your search.
Review of Literature
Give an overview of the topic. Must cite throughout this section. Must tell what search engines/library databases were used..
Review of Quantitative Research
Must give an overview of each article. Include the information needed for the Articles reviews. Complete one article overview before beginning the next one. End with a short comparison/contrasting of what these articles told about your topic.
Review of Qualitative Research
Completed in the same way as the previous section.
Summary
Short overview of what was said about your topic. What findings did you see. What information was missing (this will guide your research questions/hypothesis). (Insert page break)
