Write a paper elaborating on the question: Is there a connection between the Civil War and the civil rights movement?First Paper: Assessing Cold War Civil Rights by Mary Dudziak
Prompt: For this assignment, you will put together a comprehensive summary of Dudziak’s
argument on how the Cold War affected the pace and shape of civil rights reform in America.
1). Your introduction should provide the reader with a clear understanding of what historical period your paper will go on to assess. It should also introduce the reader to Dudziak’s argument for why the Civil Rights Movement and the Cold War should be thought of together as overlapping historical movements. Your thesis (the introduction’s conclusion) should express your view on the effectiveness of Dudziak’s argument and make reference to at least three historical events and/or developments that you will cover to support your position.
2). Across your body paragraphs, analyze at least three historical events and/or developments that Dudziak cites to support her argument. For each major example, provide at least two or three pieces of textual evidence from Cold War Civil Rights that demonstrate its importance and analyze the role it plays in Dudziak’s overall argument. For each major example, you should also discuss to what extent you find Dudziak’s analysis to be a compelling representation of that historical event and/or development.

3). For your conclusion, you should reflect on if Dudziak’s historical analysis has shifted your understanding of civil rights reform in America. If it did, explain how your understanding has shifted. If it did not, either discuss what sources/experiences previously led you to understand this connection between civil rights reform and the Cold War or explain why you feel the interpretive framework of Dudziak’s analysis should not be applied to the historical remembrance of the Civil Rights Movement.
