Write a report without issue as well as address the public by looking them in the eyes, speaking with confidence, and providing amazing customer service.

Instructions:

I met with the Chiefs of Police and administration from local law enforcement agencies. When asked what new employees need in order to be successful at their agencies, they named the following:

1. Better writing skills

2. Better people/soft skills.

They all stated if they could hire the perfect employee, the employee would be able to write a report without issue as well as address the public by looking them in the eyes, speaking with confidence, and providing amazing customer service.

As a future employee of these agencies, this two-part assignment will help to prepare you.

Step 1: Watch the first crime in the following film, Portrait of a Killer. This assignment covers ONLY the first case discussed in this film.

Written Assignment instructions:

After watching the film and reviewing the steps of the criminal justice process, download the following report writing template.

You are Office Frye who takes the initial missing person report in the case. Complete the report keeping in mind the steps of the criminal justice process.

The following questions should be addressed in the report:

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

The report should be written in chronological order of occurrence.

If you do not have information from the video, include the information you do have. The report should include ALL of Officer Frye’s involvement in the case which spans over the course of many days.
