Write a research article that goes into further detail about the seven components of strategic planning.

The major activity
of this class is a strategic plan for a business. You may write about any
profit seeking, publicly traded company or one of the big four accounting
firms. It’ll be a lot more fun if you choose your “dream job” company, or the
company you’d most like to work for.

Use a heading for
each section, and sub-headings within the sections. Each section should have a
short introductory paragraph, and no section should exceed a page. Use 12 point
font. Line spacing is up to you. Start with a title page.

1. The Executive
Summary. Clearly describe and sell your plan!
Write this last,
but put it at the beginning.

This should be about a half page.

2. In the
Background section include information the reader needs to understand your
company, such as its size, the businesses it’s competing in, and the strategy
it’s following. Also, compare the company to its competitors. Include your
company’s current performance, especially five-year stock price change, and
one-year ROA and revenue growth. Be sure to evaluate performance, rather than
simply reporting the numbers.

3. For the SWOT
Analysis tell the reader about your company’s most important strength,
weakness, opportunity and threat. For the opportunity and threat you must use
an item from the PESTEL macro-environmental analysis or Porter’s Five Forces.
For the strength and weakness you must use an item from the Value Chain.

4. The
Alternatives section is the creative part of the paper. Build on the SWOT and
present two possible plans for your company, chosen from the four options
presented in class. Each plan should be complete enough that the reader can
understand and evaluate it, and each should include a cost estimate, possibly
in an appendix.

5. In the Choice
section choose one of the two alternatives, reject the other, and explain why.
Refer back to the SWOT analysis. This should be about a half page.

6. In the
Implementation section, explain how.
Use some or all of
the McKinsey 7S model from the implementation reading.

Include a
reference page and appendices as needed.
Be sure to refer
to each appendix at least once within the text of the paper.
