Guidelines:
Students are to select an aspect dealing with policies and procedures for Special Education. The student is to develop the aspect into a position paper and a one-hour training session for an identified audience using PowerPoint or other media. Students will submit a 5-page paper, a pre-recorded video delivering the presentation, and the presentation file as part of this assignment. A minimum of 3 professional references should be cited.

Locate the table entitled “Topics A – Z” review topics and find information related to the topic you selected. This list may provide a topic of interest to you. If you would like to select a topic not included above, feel free to email the instructor for prior approval.
Topics should be selected based on the interest of the student. However, topics must be approved in advance. The topic should be based on policy and procedures rather than pedagogy.
To be submitted to the instructor for the grade:
1. A 5-page position paper that provides: a narrative summarizing the topic, the historical importance of the topic, specific law that impacts the topic, current North Carolina guidelines aligned to the topic, and references. Use headings to separate your discussion!
2. Agenda for the one-hour session and handouts. The agenda should identify the objectives of the session and the intended audience.
3. Powerpoint (or other media) presentation; and
4. Pre-recorded video delivering the presentation.
This assignment must not go over 35% similarity score via TurnItIn. Assignments with over 35% will receive the grade of 0. Students may also be referred to the UNCP for violation of Honor Code.
For the professional presentation, imagine someone (principal, supervisor, parent) found out you completed research on your topic. They are so excited and ask you to provide a one-hour presentation at the next faculty meeting/parent meeting/professional conference. You will record yourself using GoReact to submit a pre-recorded presentation. Feel free to select your audience. Your presentation should be well organized and include some way to get your audience engaged. Think of presentations you have attended. What did you enjoy/benefit from? This could include a fill-in-the-blanks handout, pre/post quiz, scenarios, discussion questions, etc.
