Write a research paper with the topic, “What Is Inception’s Main Point?”

Your main goal is to get readers of your review to think more philosophically. You
can, but are not required to, make a connection to one of the attatched philosophy readings plus Descartes if that
helps you accomplish this goal.

At the same time, this is a review, not a traditional academic paper. So
you should write in an accessible and engaging style, and have to do
the kinds of things reviews standardly do, like giving basic information
and orientation to the film and its makers and drawing evaluative
judgments where remarkable successes or failures have occurred—but don’t
emphasize these elements unless they contribute to the main goal of
getting your reader to think more philosophically.

Audience: Think of your audience as the community generally, as if the
review were for an official publication.

Spoilers (two approaches, your choice):

You can write your review as if the film is just coming out. In
this case you need to avoid spoilers, and the way to get your audience
to think philosophically will probably be by bringing issues into focus
and raising questions. In
place of a thesis, you should make sure to raise a central,
well-developed question, with different possible answers and clear
stakes (not just many vague questions).
You can write your review retrospectively, assuming that the film is
now well-known enough that readers have already seen it, so can discuss
all elements openly. In
this case the way to get your audience to think philosophically could
still involve raising questions, but it can also be to argue for a more
specific and contentious interpretation, encapsulated by a thesis.
Your review should have a central question or thesis, but needn’t be organized academically.
