Through Module 1 and 2 in SOCI 220: Sociology of Indigenous Peoples, we have covered membership, socioeconomic status, and data collection challenges among Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the US. Although we were unable to cover all possible sociological literature on each topic, you do have a foundation of knowledge that you can now choose what to do with it. This assignment is designed to be one possible illustration of a way that you can apply and/or use your new knowledge.
You will choose 1 concept different from your Modular Assignment #1 to complete this Modular Assignment #2. For Modular Assignment #1, I wrote about cultural bonds, membership and identity, so this Modular Assignment #2 topic has to be different. You should write about socioeconomic status and data collection challenges among Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the US.
Written Response
Part 1. What concept, term, etc. struck you from the readings, podcasts, and class time from the course thus far? Must be different from your Modular Assignment #1. Worth 10 points
In your answer, please explain why the concept, term, etc. stood out to you.
Your answer should be between 40–50 words.
Part 2. How would you explain this concept, term, etc. from question 1 to a friend, family member, or co-worker? Worth 50 points
You are to write using your voice, your understanding of the topics of the questions, and in language/style that you could use in conversation with a friend or family member. It is my hope that this style of writing will begin to prepare you to share your knowledge outside of our class and demonstrate to me what you have learned. Thus, you will write the answer in your own words without citations.
Here is an example of the writing style.
Your answer should be between 430-450 words.
Part 3. Annotated Bibliography – You will provide an annotated bibliography of 3 course sources/materials. In the annotated bibliography, you will list the sources using the formatting from the course readings list and provide 40-50 words per citation of how it was used in your answer in question 2. Worth 15 points
