For the argumentative synthesis, you will be expected to take a position (that is, an opinion supported with evidence) on one of the following topics: Sugar, Plant Based Diet, Cosmetics, Plastics, Microfibers, Fast Fashion/Slow Fashion, Sleep and College Students, Student Loan Debt, Distracted Driving, or Social Media.
The assignment asks that you use your personal experience as support for your position. It is possible to also include the experiences of friends and family members if you name them in the essay.
You are limited to three sources from the list of topics described above. You cannot include less than or more than three sources, and these sources need to come from one of the topics listed above. It is possible to use the same topic and the same sources you used for the informative synthesis.
It may be tempting to interview a friend or family member. What information you discover can be included in the essay, but it cannot be cited as an interview. You might say something like, “When I talked to my friend Sue Smith recently, I discovered that she plans on finishing her degree in three years by taking at least nine credit hours during the next two summers, with the goal of avoiding large amounts of student loan debt. She is also taking nineteen hours each semester.”
